Overnight Russian air strikes have killed at least four people, including three young children in Ukraine's north-eastern Kharkiv region, local officials have said.

Regional head Oleh Synegubov reported that two boys, both aged two, a one-year-old girl, and a 34-year-old man died after a drone hit their house in the town of Bohodukhiv.

A 35-year-old pregnant woman and another woman, aged 73, were injured in the strike on the town, Synegubov stated.

This attack comes as Moscow renews its strikes after a week-long pause. Bohodukhiv, which is located north-west of Ukraine's second-largest city of Kharkiv, has been subjected to almost daily Russian bombardments recently.

In a related incident earlier in the week, a 41-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy were killed in similar incidents in the same town.

Russian forces also targeted the city of Slovyansk, where a bombing resulted in the death of three individuals, including an 11-year-old girl.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that Moscow is escalating its attacks on infrastructural targets with a record number of ballistic missiles as the humanitarian situation deteriorates.

Local authorities in the Kharkiv region have declared a state of emergency concerning the energy crisis as subzero temperatures ravage the area, affecting tens of thousands with power cuts and lack of heating or running water.

The situation follows the expiration of a so-called 'energy truce' that was aimed at diminishing the conflict's toll amid severe winter conditions.

On an international front, Ukraine plans to hold talks with the US regarding potential resolutions to the ongoing conflict as renewed attacks intensify fears for civilian safety.
