At least three people were killed and several injured overnight in a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on the Moscow region, Russian officials have reported.

A woman died in Khimki, north of Moscow, and a person was trapped under rubble, regional governor Andrei Vorobiev stated. Additionally, a man and a woman were killed in the village of Pogorelki.

The Indian Embassy in Moscow has confirmed the death of a male Indian citizen, with three others sustaining injuries, though it's unclear if these casualties were included in the overall count. Another fatality was reported in the Belgorod region, bordering Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized the drone strikes as an entirely justified reaction to previous deadly Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. Meanwhile, Russian state news agency Tass described the strikes as the most significant assault on Moscow in over a year.

Earlier this week, a massive Russian drone and missile attack resulted in the deaths of 24 individuals in Kyiv, reflecting the ongoing and escalating nature of the conflict.

In retaliation, Zelensky has highlighted that Ukraine's long-range attacks have struck at the heart of Russian operations, asserting that such actions are legitimate as they target facilities that support the Russian war effort.

The drone assault underscores a rise in hostilities, with both sides exchanging blows as the war shows no signs of abating. As the conflict continues, the toll on civilian lives remains a critical focal point amidst military operations.
