TUCSON, Ariz. (PulseWire) — Savannah Guthrie, host of NBC’s “Today” show, made an emotional plea for the safe return of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who has been missing since Saturday. In a recorded message posted to social media on Wednesday, Savannah spoke directly to her mother's kidnapper, asking for proof that Nancy is still alive.
In the video, Savannah expressed her family’s readiness to talk, but emphasized the importance of confirming her mother’s safety first. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us,” she stated.
Nancy Guthrie was dropped off at her home around 9:45 p.m. Saturday after dinner with family, and was reported missing the following day when she failed to show up for church services. The Pima County Sheriff's Department has confirmed signs of forced entry at her home and believes she may not have left voluntarily, considering her health conditions.
As the investigation continues, multiple media outlets have reported receiving ransom notes, which have been handed over to authorities. The sheriff's department has stated they are taking these reports seriously but have not provided further details. No suspects have been identified as of yet.
At a vigil attended by hundreds in Tucson, Savannah spoke fondly of her mother, describing her as a kind, faithful, loyal, fiercely loving woman of goodness and light.” The family has expressed hope and determination as they navigate this difficult time, insisting they will do everything to find Nancy.
Supporters and former colleagues of Savannah, who grew up in Tucson, have rallied around the family, showing love and support during their time of distress.
As of Thursday, the sheriff's department continues to investigate, hoping for leads in the case while funds are being allocated to support the search efforts in the challenging desert terrain.
