The avalanche struck on Friday in the village of Mana, near the Tibet border, while road construction workers were on site. Around 50 individuals were rescued, although four succumbed to injuries. Helicopters are currently aiding the search, as authorities work tirelessly to support the victims and their families in this challenging time.
According to the Indian Army, rescue efforts are actively underway, with state chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasizing the government's commitment to provide assistance. Local reports highlight that the avalanche's impact has largely affected temporary workers, as permanent residents do not typically occupy the area during winter months. The India Meteorological Department had previously warned of adverse weather conditions, stating heavy rainfall and snow could exacerbate the situation in the region.
