Ukraine Strikes Knock Out Power in Key City in Russian-Occupied Crimea

A Ukrainian drone strike on Tuesday night hit the main power sub‑station that feeds Sevastopol, the largest city on the Crimea peninsula, plunging the port into a prolonged blackout, officials reported.
Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Moscow‑appointed governor, warned that some areas will remain without electricity until the evening of Wednesday. Residents were urged to conserve power by dimming phone screens, turning off background apps, and checking on elderly neighbours as temperatures climb to 30°C.
The outage comes amid a series of Ukrainian attacks aimed at crippling Russian‑controlled energy and logistics infrastructure. Earlier this week, Russian‑installed authorities shut all fuel sales in Sevastopol to prevent supplies from reaching civilians, leading to panic buying of basic goods such as sugar. The city’s fuel stations have now been largely repurposed for government use.
Sevastopol, an important naval base and gateway to the Black Sea, has been a focal point in the conflict since Russia annexed Crimea in 2014. Kyiv’s strategy to target key bridges and energy facilities seeks to weaken Russia’s war logistics and compel negotiations on the negotiating table, according to Ukrainian officials.
