WASHINGTON— US President Donald Trump has ruled out any joint venture with China in artificial intelligence, saying it would effectively hand over American secrets to the world’s main economic rival. The remark was made at the launch of America.gov, a new AI‑powered portal that aims to streamline access to government services.

Trump lauded the United States as the world’s leader in AI, adding, It is all between us and China. If we mix it up, we are giving away secrets that they want. He reiterated that he will not cooperate with China to develop AI technologies.

The comments came after the White House and Beijing launched a bilateral AI dialogue and set up a communication channel to prevent misunderstandings. While the two sides will meet again in November, Trump insists the United States must keep its technological advantage.

On the domestic front, Americans are increasingly wary of the risks posed by AI. A Politico poll released in late September found that two‑thirds of respondents see a moderate or higher risk that AI could harm humanity, and 44% of Trump supporters said they would prefer the development of AI to be paused.
