On the second day of President Xi Jinping’s 11‑day visit to Washington, D.C., the U.S. host and the Chinese leader cut a small cake and exchanged diplomatic niceties over a livestream‑poker session from the West Wing.
The meeting, filmed in the Oval Office, was marked by bright lighting, a polished podium and the occasional clink of glasses, but it produced no breakthroughs on the high‑stakes issues that dominate U.S.–China policy, including trade tensions, technology export controls and regional security in East Asia.

While the event generated headlines for its star‑studded cast, analysts pointed out that the key policy conversations had remained largely narrow and symbolic. The White House remains open for future engagements as both leaders seek to shape a more stable U.S.–China relationship amid global uncertainties.
