The Prophet and the Mysterious Death of Charmain Speirs
Charmain Speirs was 40 years old when she met the prophet Eric Adusah. For several years, she had been part of one of the fastest-growing Christian movements in the world, Pentecostalism. Through her faith, she appeared to discover the happiness she'd been struggling to find, but something was still missing.
She'd just had enough of normal men, her friend Anne-Marie explained. She wanted that man of God. She wanted what was promised for her.” Charmain's romantic life led her to the head pastor of Global Light Revival Church. Originally from Ghana, Adusah appeared regularly on Christian television channels, where he was not only a pastor but was also regarded as a prophet receiving divine revelations.
Charmain and Adusah married in September 2014 after a whirlwind romance, but tragedy struck just six months later when she was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Ghana. Adusah, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, was released due to a lack of evidence and has denied any involvement in her death. Yet, a BBC Disclosure investigation has uncovered significant omissions in his account of that fateful night.
As the documentary series Charmain and the Prophet investigates, it reveals voices from Adusah's past partners who claim he poses a danger to women. This account raises alarming questions regarding his manipulative behavior and the potential for domestic abuse. Charmain's friends describe a pattern where she transformed from a vibrant personality into a woman controlled by Adusah, raising questions about the truth behind her tragic unraveling.
The investigation has sparked discussions about the dangers associated with charismatic religious figures and the need for transparency and accountability in such communities.
