Last week, the U.S. alt‑pop singer Oliver Tree – born Oliver Tree Nickell – was among six passengers killed when his helicopter collided with another over Rio de Janeiro. The crash sparked a fire in a nearby car park, igniting around 20 vehicles.
The 32‑year‑old was on the first leg of his world tour, following a show in São Paulo the weekend before. Authorities said investigators are now examining the circumstances of the collision.
Among those aboard the helicopter were Argentine content creator Gaspar Prim Diaz (known as Gaspi), as well as Lucas Brito Chaves and Lucas Vignale, with pilot Alexandre Souza. The other aircraft’s manifest listed only pilot Charles Marsillac.
The tragedy has triggered an outpouring of grief from fellow musicians. KSI poured on the X‑post: “You’re a legend… so many f‑messages… I love you bro.” Steve‑O posted a photo of the pair and mourned, “I’ll miss him.”
Tree had a growing list of hits – “Life Goes On”, “Miss You”, “Alien Boy” – and recently won a Guinness record for the largest kick scooter. He had been nominated for a Brit Award in 2024 for “Miss You”.
