Alt‑pop artist Oliver Tree, 32, perished in the 2026 helicopter collision that also took the lives of five other passengers over Rio de Janeiro. The two aircraft crashed together, setting the car‑park of a dealership ablaze with a flame that prompted emergency services to arrive shortly after 9 p.m. local time (12:00 UTC).
Video footage from local media shows one of the helicopters falling from the sky as smoke erupted from the wreckage and surrounding vehicles. The incident prompted a formal investigation into the circumstances of the collision, with authorities now reviewing flight records and witness accounts.
The helicopter’s manifest listed Oliver Tree, Argentine creator Gaspi and several other musicians such as Lucas Brito Chaves, Lucas Vignale, and pilot Alexandre Souza. The second aircraft’s roster contained only pilot Charles Marsillac, indicating that the fatal impact involved both airframes and crew.
Tree, also known as Oliver Tree Nickell, first gained traction in 2016 through viral social‑media videos that showcased his unique style and humor. Songs like Life Goes On, Miss You and Alien Boy marked his ascent in the alt‑music scene, earning him a nomination for a Brit Award in 2024 alongside German producer Robin Schulz.
The 2024 world tour had brought Tree to São Paulo on 6 June, with his next residency slated for Lisbon on 1 July and additional dates in Glasgow, Manchester and London set for September. His sudden death abruptly halted the tour and left fans wondering what future projects might have looked like.
Former Britain’s Got Talent judge KSI posted an emotional tribute on X, lamenting Tree’s loss and recalling the impact of his music and content. On the same platform, celebrity stuntman and YouTuber Stock‑attorney Steve‑O expressed his grief, sharing a photo that documented a friendship that spanned several years.
Beyond his music, Tree claimed a Guinness World Record in 2020 for constructing the largest kick scooter, measuring 0.16 m in height and 3.13 m in length. His combination of creative flair and engineering curiosity earned him broad recognition across fandoms.
