Police have detained a person in connection to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of US news anchor Savannah Guthrie. Authorities are also searching the home of the detainee, who was taken into custody at a traffic stop, sources familiar with the investigation reported to CBS News, the BBC's US partner.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department later confirmed that police were conducting a court-authorized search in Rio Rico, south of Tucson, Arizona. Guthrie, 84, was abducted from her home near Tucson over a week ago, prompting a widespread search and desperate appeals from her family.

Details regarding the person in custody have not been disclosed; however, the detainee's mother-in-law claims he is innocent and criticized police as "invading" her property. Meanwhile, the FBI has released images of a masked individual at Nancy Guthrie's home on the night of her disappearance.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated that new images show an armed person apparently tampering with the door camera. The FBI is also investigating a series of ransom notes, including deadlines. Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have been emotional in social media posts pleading for their mother's return, underscoring their concerns about her health without necessary medication and the frail state of her health.

As authorities investigate, the FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for reliable information regarding Nancy's disappearance. The FBI stresses the urgency due to Nancy's fragile condition, further intensified by the knowledge that her pacemaker app disconnected on the night she went missing, along with blood found on her porch confirmed to be hers.
