Poland arrests suspect in alleged plot to murder Prime Minister Donald Tusk
The Polish Interior Ministry announced that a man suspected of planning an assassination of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak‑Kamysz has been detained.
Tusk thanked the police for their "swift and decisive action" in the arrest, according to a statement released by his office.
Security services convened a special meeting on Sunday after receiving credible information that an attack could be carried out against the two officials. Officials described the threat as "deadly serious" and warned that the plan could ultimately be implemented.
The suspect, Jacek Dobrzynski—a Polish national arrested in the Lower Silesia region—was identified after an email with details of the potential attack was forwarded to the State Protection Service, which handles ministerial security.
"In this case we are talking about a strong likelihood that these threats could actually be carried out," a spokesman for the Special Services Coordinator said to local media.
Tusk has served as Poland’s prime minister since 2023, following a previous term from 2007 to 2014. He was also president of the European Council between 2014 and 2019.
