At least seven people were killed in Russian strikes across Ukraine overnight, including five in the central city of Dnipro, where officials reported that an apartment building was hit. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the attack lasted 'practically all night,' with rescue workers still searching for survivors under the rubble in Dnipro on Saturday morning.
British jets were scrambled from Romania during the heavy attack when Russian drones were detected near the border, although the UK Ministry of Defence denied reports indicating they had engaged any targets. In response, Ukraine carried out some of its longest-distance drone strikes deep into Russian territory, with reports of injuries resulting from strikes in Yekaterinburg and drone interceptions in Chelyabinsk.
In addition to fatalities in Dnipro, Russian missiles and drones targeted the city of Chernihiv, claiming two more lives, and also affected Odesa and Kharkiv. Ukrainian authorities reported that they successfully defended against the vast majority of over 600 Russian drones, marking one of the largest aerial assaults in recent days.
Zelensky emphasized that the tactics of the Russian forces remained unchanged, continuing the strategy of targeting civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings and energy facilities.
Russia's Ministry of Defence claimed the downing of 127 drones over numerous regions and reported gaining control of a village in the Kharkiv region. However, this assertion has not been verified independently by Ukrainian officials. Separately, the Romanian defence ministry is investigating unidentified objects found on its territory amidst the turmoil, further complicating the regional security landscape as military efforts continue amid stalled peace negotiations.
