Just hours after a ceasefire was brokered by former US President Donald Trump and Qatari officials, Israel accused Iran of breaching the agreement, prompting Defense Minister Israel Katz to threaten "powerful strikes" against Iranian targets if the alleged violations continued. Iran has firmly denied these accusations, asserting that it has not launched any missiles toward Israel and promising robust responses to any further Israeli aggression.
The ceasefire officially took effect at 05:00 GMT on Tuesday, with Trump announcing the truce on his Truth Social platform, imploring both sides to adhere to the new terms. The agreement was reached after Iran indicated it would halt its attacks in exchange for a similar cease in hostilities from Israel. However, following Israel's acceptance of the ceasefire at around 06:00 GMT, it accused Iran of launching missile attacks shortly thereafter, leading to immediate tensions.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported identifying missiles fired from Iran just two hours after the ceasefire was established. Katz expressed that Iran's actions were a "complete violation" of the agreement and instructed Israeli military operations to continue targeting Iranian regime assets and terror infrastructures. In response, Iran's military leadership denied launching any missiles and indicated that any escalation would be met with severe consequences.
Despite the ceasefire’s declaration, the exchange of hostilities continued through the night prior. The IDF confirmed multiple rounds of airstrikes on Iranian territory, which resulted in fatalities and injuries in the Israeli city of Beersheba, while Iranian media claimed they had launched their final missile strikes before the ceasefire took effect.
Amid this chaotic backdrop, Tehran reported intense air defense activity, with sounds of explosions ringing through the capital as alarm systems were triggered. Israeli attacks were also said to have targeted specific military installations in Iran, further complicating the situation. The overall death toll and injuries from this ongoing conflict remain uncertain as both nations trade accusations amidst a tenuous ceasefire.
As the conflict evolves, real-time updates are critical in assessing the rapidly changing dynamics of the Iran-Israel relationship and its implications for broader regional stability.
