Ukraine Claims FP‑5 Missile Strike Hits Russian Military Plant Near Cheboksary
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that overnight Ukrainian forces struck a Russian drone‑ and missile‑production facility in the city of Cheboksary, Chuvash Republic, by using FP‑5 Flamingo cruise missiles. The target was located more than 900 km from the front line.
Video posted by the Ukrainian government shows a missile inbound and then a plume of smoke erupting from the plant. Local officials report that three civilians were injured, though it is unclear whether the plant itself sustained major damage.
In the same week, Ukraine said it also hit the occupied port of Mariupol on the Sea of Azov, a refinery in Samara and a shadow‑fleet oil tanker in the Black Sea. The attacks are part of an intensified campaign of drone and missile strikes on Russian infrastructure.
Russia’s air defence units claim to have intercepted or shot down 326 Ukrainian drones overnight, while the Ukrainian air force reports downing 181 of 207 drones launched by Russia and achieving 21 direct hits in 14 locations.
The FP‑5 missile carries a 1,150‑kg warhead and is reported to have a range of 3,000 km, making Moscow and other major Russian cities well within striking distance.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed recent negotiation proposals and insists that Russian forces are advancing everywhere on the front line, though evidence suggests the front has remained largely static in recent months.
The attack marks one of the few occasions where Ukraine has struck a remote Russian military target, underscoring the increasing boldness of its strategic operations.
