Russian forces have increased attacks on Kyiv’s critical bridges over the last four days, destroying key infrastructure and disrupting traffic across the city.

The Pivnichnyi (Northern) Bridge has fallen to Russian drone strikes for the second consecutive day, while the Pivdennyi (Southern) Bridge suffered multiple hits earlier in the week.

These strikes came as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz visited Kyiv on Sunday, adding political complexity to the front‑line damage.

BBC Ukraine correspondent Dan Johnson, stationed near one of the damaged bridges, reports that debris is still settling and that repair plans are pending.

What we know: Russian drones and missiles are targeting bridges to cripple transport links, with no confirmed casualty figures so far. The strikes remain part of Moscow’s broader strategy to isolate Ukraine’s capital.

The international community watches, while Ukrainian officials contend with repairing critical infrastructure amid ongoing conflict.
