Two people were killed when Russian drones struck the Starokozache border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.
The crossing, 500 km south of Kyiv, was forced closed after the overnight attack left burnt‑out cars and debris. Odesa regional head Oleh Kiper reported the injuries of residents and a Moldovan driver.
Zelensky demanded that international allies act “here and now” amid a surge in long‑range drone strikes. In Kyiv a nine‑storey residential building was hit by a drone, killing a woman and injuring 14 people, including two children.
Russia’s defence ministry claimed it shot down 596 Ukrainian drones overnight. In the Russian port of Novorossiysk four people, including a child, died and 29 were injured, while a drone attack in the Arctic city of Novy Urengoy was repelled after causing a fire but no casualties.
Diplomatic talks to end the war remain stalled, although the U.S. president recently discussed possible negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
