Russian Missiles Strike Kyiv’s Railway Depot, Killing 12
At least 12 people have been killed and 20 injured, including two children, in overnight missile and drone strikes on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and its surrounding region, officials report.
Six of those killed were railway workers of the state company Ukrzaliznytsia after one of its depots in Kyiv was struck, causing fires in three city districts. The attack also left a residential building in the nearby town of Boryspil damaged, killing four more residents.
Russia said it used a “massive strike using high‑precision weapons” targeting Ukrainian military and energy facilities. A single casualty was reported in Ukraine’s western Belgorod region, where a Russian drone strike killed an individual.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has long urged President Putin to end the conflict, delivered a speech at a security summit in Kyrgyzstan urging a peace resolution. Modi’s plea followed the latest attacks on Kyiv, his country’s economy still relies heavily on discounted oil from Moscow.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that roughly 350 rescue workers had been clearing debris through the night. In a social media post he said Russia launched a “significant number of jet drones and ballistic missiles.”
The strikes are the sixth day of sustained Russian attacks on Kyiv, aimed at exhausting Ukraine’s air defences and eroding civilian morale. Russia’s military has warned that it plans to target Ukrainian energy facilities in forthcoming operations.
The destruction and injuries extend across eight Ukrainian regions, including an Indian national who was killed in Boryspil. Ukrainian Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivsky noted that the victim, 26 years old, had been living in Kyiv.
