US authorities have issued an urgent warning for Celsius energy drink consumers to check their cans due to a significant mix-up that led to some being accidentally filled with vodka. The US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) identified the impacted product as the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition of Celsius.
The error occurred when a packaging supplier provided empty Celsius cans to the High Noon vodka seltzer company, which unknowingly filled them with alcohol. In response, High Noon is recalling certain Beach Variety packs linked to the same production line as the affected Celsius cans. To date, the FDA has reported no illnesses or adverse events connected to these products.
The recall specifically targets two production lots, which have been detailed on the USFDA's website. The affected units were distributed to retailers across several states, including Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin, between July 21 and July 23.
Consumers who may have purchased the High Noon packs should look for the retail code UPC 085000040065, along with the following lot codes:
- L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59
- L CCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00
For Celsius cans, these are identified by the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1, along with these lot codes:
- L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11
The USFDA is advising consumers to dispose of any impacted Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink cans, emphasizing the importance of not consuming the liquid. However, it's noted that High Noon Beach Variety packs associated with different lot codes are still safe for consumption.
