The recall affects approximately 2.6 million Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs due to a potential burn hazard, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported. This decision follows incidents where loose lids detached from the mugs, leading to burn injuries.

The affected mugs were sold nationwide from June 2016 to December 2024 at various retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, with prices ranging from $20 to $50. These travel mugs, available in diverse colors such as black, green, and white, come in sizes from 12 to 20 ounces.

Concerns were raised as the polypropylene lids on these mugs could shrink when exposed to heat and torque, resulting in a detachment and subsequently posing a risk for burns. According to Stanley, there has been a total of 91 worldwide reports of the lids coming off, with 38 of these reports stating incidents led to burn injuries – 16 occurring in the U.S. alone.

Stanley, a Seattle-based company known for producing durable outdoor goods, expressed dedication to quality in its product offerings. They are encouraging customers to cease using these mugs and to contact them directly to initiate a free replacement process.

The brand has seen a significant rise in popularity over recent years, particularly with their tumblers becoming highly sought-after items promoted by social media influencers. This trend has transformed the tumblers into fashionable items on platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, with #StanleyTumbler gaining traction among users.

In the wake of this recall, the company aims to ensure customer safety while reinforcing their commitment to ongoing product improvement.
