Haribo is implementing a recall of its 1kg packs of Happy Cola F!ZZ sweets in the Netherlands after traces of cannabis were discovered. This follows reports from several individuals, including a family, who experienced symptoms such as dizziness after consumption. The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) confirmed that cannabis was identified in tested samples, leading the candy manufacturer to act swiftly.

Currently, the investigation into how the cannabis ended up in the sweets is ongoing, with police involved to ascertain the facts of the contamination. Although only three packs were confirmed to be tainted, Haribo deemed it prudent to recall all stock with a best-before date of January 2026 to ensure public safety.

The NVWA has warned the public, stating, "Do not eat the sweets," as there may be bags in circulation that can result in various health complaints. There is still uncertainty regarding whether the affected products are authentic Haribo items or potentially counterfeit.

While the recall is limited to the Netherlands and all other regional products are deemed safe, Haribo has expressed that consumer safety is of paramount importance and is treating the situation with utmost seriousness.
