MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Four people have been indicted on federal charges stemming from clashes with federal officers in Minneapolis, including one woman accused of biting off an immigration officer’s fingertip.
The three others were charged in connection with threats made to FBI agents after documents containing the agents’ personal information were stolen from a vehicle.
According to sworn statements filed in those cases, the FBI agents were investigating a shooting by an Immigration Customs Enforcement Officer on Jan. 14 when protests made the area unsafe, prompting them to flee on foot and leave behind two of their vehicles. These vehicles were vandalized, with several items stolen, including guns and FBI identification cards.
The stolen personal information was later shared on social media, leading to officers receiving various threats.
Details of the Assault
Claire Louise Feng, 27, from St. Paul, Minnesota, faces an assault charge after allegedly biting an officer's finger during a protest on January 24, following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by immigration officers. An affidavit suggests that while an immigration officer was attempting an arrest, Feng tackled and injured the officer.
After the incident, the officer discovered the fingertip had been bitten off while attempting to assess his injuries and received medical attention shortly after.
Feng’s attorney indicated they would fight the charges, arguing concerns over the credibility of the claims made by the ICE agent involved.
Threats Against FBI Agents
Three other individuals were indicted for making threats against FBI agents after their information became public. Brenna Marie Doyle, 18, from Spokane, Washington, allegedly left threatening messages directed at an FBI agent and their family. Meanwhile, James Patrick Lyons and Jose Alberto Ramirez were indicted for sending threatening texts to FBI employees.
The situation highlights the growing tensions surrounding immigration enforcement and law enforcement's interactions with the public.
