In brief
Actress and singer Halle Bailey has successfully obtained a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend DDG, citing repeated abuse and threats to her safety and that of their young son.
Halle Bailey, the star of Disney's live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, has taken significant legal steps to protect herself and her son Halo by securing a restraining order against her former partner, rapper and YouTube influencer DDG (Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.). This decision comes after Bailey, 25, accused Granberry, 27, of ongoing physical and emotional abuse since their relationship ended in October 2022. In a court filing, Bailey detailed multiple incidents of violence, one particularly disturbing event in January where Granberry allegedly physically assaulted her while she was placing their infant in a car seat. She claimed that Granberry’s insults escalated into a physical confrontation resulting in her sustaining injuries, including a chipped tooth. Further alarming claims included Granberry allegedly breaking into her home during her absence, sending threatening messages, and engaging in a confrontation where he reportedly damaged her security camera and harmed her as she sought help from a family member. In response to these allegations, a Los Angeles judge mandated that Granberry maintain a significant distance from Bailey and their child until a follow-up hearing, scheduled for June 6. The court order also includes a prohibition against him possessing firearms. Bailey’s petition for the restraining order emphasizes the need for ongoing protection against Granberry’s purported harassment on social media, claiming that his public assertions have drawn threats and negative attention from his followers. Bailey, who has received critical acclaim for her musical career as part of the duo Chloe x Halle and as a solo artist, has also been recognized for her work on the hit sitcom Grown-ish. Meanwhile, DDG has built a substantial following on YouTube and has released several albums since signing with a record label in 2018. Bailey's efforts to safeguard her family spotlight the ongoing issues of domestic abuse, drawing attention from fans and advocates alike.
