\Washington was the first Western power to openly rebuke Israel, calling the assault an “unnecessary escalation that does not advance regional stability.” The U.S. stance follows Turkey’s refusal to admit any troop movement to the damaged airbase, which sits 70 km from the Turkish border and has been under anti‑Assad control since December 2024.
