Israeli forces have reportedly carried out new strikes in southern Lebanon even as former President Donald Trump criticised Israel’s actions in the region.

On Wednesday, Israeli jets hit the Nabatieh Al‑Fawqa area and the outskirts of neighbouring Kfar Tebnit, according to Lebanon’s state‑run National News Agency. The Israeli military has not yet commented, but previously said it is targeting the Iran‑backed armed group Hezbollah.

The text of a US‑Iran deal to end the war has not been released, but the mediator in Pakistan says it includes Lebanon. The U.S. and Iran announced the agreement on Sunday night; both sides have begun fighting each other again.

On Tuesday, Trump said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu needed to be “more responsible with respect to Lebanon,” remarking in the G7 summit that Israel had been fighting Hezbollah “for too long” and too many people were being killed.

Trump claimed that without U.S. support there would be no Israel, while Netanyahu insisted forces would stay in Lebanon “for as long as necessary.” Iran’s foreign minister warned that continued Israeli presence would breach the interim agreement with the U.S.

The parties appeared set to sign the memorandum of understanding in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, later that week, with Trump saying he would likely read the agreement out loud to the world.
