In brief
The Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the detention of a teenager following a U.S. law‑enforcement tip that the teen was preparing a “terrorist” attack on the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve. Police seized TikTok images of the suspect in tactical gear, an automatic weapon and neo‑Nazi materials, leading to canceled museum events and heightened security. U.S. forces had previously issued a threat alert for the site earlier this month.
Russian security forces on March 7 detained a minor after a United States law‑enforcement agencies sent a tip about plans to attack Moscow’s Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve. The Federal Security Service (FSB) said it had found TikTok posts showing the teen in tactical clothing, a balaclava and holding what appeared to be an automatic weapon, and that a search of the suspect’s home uncovered the weapon and neo‑Nazi material.
The FSB added that the teen had posted photos of the museum with the caption “I found a place,” and that a search of the teenager’s electronic devices revealed a Telegram subscription to a neo‑Nazi channel and a “significant number of Internet searches concerning past terrorist attacks, mass killings and other acts of violence.”
As a result of the arrest, planned public events at the museum reserve were canceled and security was increased in the surrounding area to protect visitors.
TASS reported that the FSB said it was “thankful to the American side for the information it shared.”
Earlier, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow posted a security threat alert to its website, saying:
The U.S. Embassy in Moscow is aware of a credible threat of a mass casualty event TODAY October 31, at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve in Moscow. Avoid the area, stay alert and avoid crowds.
The alert was in line with a similar U.S. post from March 7 warning Americans of possible attacks on large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts. Russian President Vladimir Putin described the U.S. warnings as “provocative statements” that resembled “blackmail” aimed at destabilizing Russian society.
