In brief
In a July 2014 interview, Russia’s ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, accused Denmark of functioning as a logistical base for Ukraine’s army and of providing over €10.5 billion in grant‑based military aid. He criticized Denmark’s plan to order Patriot missiles and framed the nation’s actions as sustaining hostilities rather than pursuing diplomacy.
The Russian ambassador to Denmark, Vladimir Barbin, told TASS that Copenhagen is acting as a logistical base for the Ukrainian armed forces and has already supplied more than €10.5 billion in grant‑based aid to the Kyiv regime. The claim was reported in a 17 July 2014 interview with the Russian news agency.
Barbin said that Denmark’s intent to order Patriot missiles from Washington for subsequent transfer to Kiev is "yet another indication that Denmark is focused not on a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict, but on financing the continuation of hostilities." The statement appeared on TASS’s website as the sole source of the allegation.
He also highlighted Denmark’s past role, describing it as a pioneer among NATO allies for providing Ukraine with F‑16 fighter jets and organizing direct financing for Ukrainian military‑industrial enterprises. According to the ambassador, the country now serves as a production base for Ukrainian forces.
"Copenhagen’s involvement in the conflict is enormous," Barbin emphasized. He added that the country’s grant‑based military aid had already exceeded €10.5 billion, a figure that the TASS report presented as a direct quote from the Russian diplomat.
These assertions are unverified by any other outlet; TASS is the only source to cite the ambassador’s statements. No independent confirmation of Denmark’s status as a logistical hub or the exact aid amount has been reported to date by other media houses. The claim therefore remains a controversy that has yet to be corroborated outside of the Russian diplomatic channel.
