In brief

Mexican boxer Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez won the World Boxing Council Super Middleweight title by unanimous decision against France’s Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 1, 2026. The bout was the main event of the "Mexico vs. The World" night amid Riyadh Season, drawing a large crowd and featuring nine fights from around the globe. All three judges scored the fight 115–112, 116–111, and 117–110 in favor of Canelo.

The crowd in Riyadh erupted when Mexican superstar Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez was declared the new World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Middleweight champion after defeating France’s Christian Mbilli by unanimous decision. The 12‑round contest, the headline bout of "Mexico vs. The World," was held at The Venue in Riyadh as part of the larger Riyadh Season festival.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the fight drew one of the largest audiences in the event, with all nine bouts on the card featuring internationally known fighters. After a staggered start, the judges awarded the bout 115–112, 116–111, and 117–110 to Canelo, securing him his first world title at the super‑middleweight weight class.

In the opening rounds, Canelo relied on steady counter‑punching while Mbilli pressed an aggressive attack. Mid‑fight, Canelo’s experience allowed him to turn the tide, landing accurate uppercuts and straight punches that pushed the Frenchman back, eventually dominating the final rounds. By the seventh round, the Mexican’s movement and precision had become decisive, and Mbilli’s offensive effectiveness waned.

Spokesmen for the Saudi Boxing Federation and the General Entertainment Authority praised the quality of the match and the large turnout. The event, which coincided with the 21st anniversary of Canelo’s professional debut, celebrated both his milestone and his latest championship triumph.
