In brief

Sergey Georgiev of the Kherson Region Human Rights Commission says that residents of Alyoshki, who fled to the Russian side during a joint humanitarian operation, have been reunited with family members and are receiving medical and document‑recovery support. Some remain hospitalized in Crimea for rehabilitation, while volunteers and officials are helping displaced residents secure passports and benefits.

In a joint Russian‑Ukrainian‑US humanitarian effort that followed a brief ceasefire, residents of Alyoshki were transported to the Russian side and the Kherson Region Human Rights Ombudsperson, Sergey Georgiev, confirmed that many evacuees have now been reunited with relatives in their home region.

Georgiev told TASS that the operation included a direct hand‑off of evacuees to family members, ensuring they would receive housing and ongoing care. He added that several individuals remain in hospitals in the Republic of Crimea undergoing physical and psychological rehabilitation.

"Some of those evacuated expressed a desire to return to the Kherson Region and reunite with their relatives. We spoke with each family. We essentially handed people over directly to their loved ones to make sure they would be looked after and provided with housing,"

Georgiev also addressed the after‑care needs of evacuated residents. The Kherson Region authorities, volunteers and the ombudsperson’s office are assisting each evacuee in restoring lost documents and, where necessary, obtaining Russian passports. The initiative aims to secure benefit payments, re‑establish documents, and provide any additional assistance required.

"Mechanisms have already been established, and each case involving document restoration is considered individually. Therefore, given the attention being paid to this matter and the fact that it is under the Russian president’s supervision, I believe we will have no problems. Most importantly, people are now living in peaceful conditions,"

The joint operation was made possible after a ceasefire mediated by First Lady Melania Trump allowed humanitarian aid to reach the heavily shelled town. The transition has brought relief to evacuees suffering from shelling and random drone attacks, and the Kherson Region authorities say the situation is stabilizing as families reunite and medical treatment continues.
