In brief
Cyclone Murasu slammed India's southern coast early Tuesday, delivering 120‑km/h winds and heavy rains but no casualties so far. Earlier this week, cyclone Arnab caused more than ten deaths and disrupted flights across Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Airlines and airports faced cancellations and diversions due to rough weather.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Cyclone Murasu slammed into India's southern coast, bringing sustained winds of up to 120 km/h, heavy rains, and uprooted trees, but no casualties have been reported so far, Xinhua said.
Xinhua reports that the cyclone's path was most intense in the state of Andhra Pradesh, where thousands of residents were advised to stay indoors as gusty winds and rain battered the region.
Local media accounts indicate power supplies remained normal during the storm, while over 20 flights—including a few international services—were either cancelled or diverted from airports in Andhra Pradesh and the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu.
The arrival of Murasu follows last week’s Cyclone Arnab, which Xinhua said killed more than ten people in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha and also caused widespread flight cancellations across the same states.
In contrast, Business Recorder reports that Arnab claimed at least six lives, indicating a discrepancy in the death toll reported by the two outlets.
