Norway bids farewell to King Harald

Tributes poured in following the death of King Harald V, who passed away in August after 35 years on the throne. The funeral service in Oslo Cathedral was attended by the Prince of Wales, European dignitaries and the Norwegian royal family.

After the public service, a private ceremony was held at Akershus Fortress, where the king was laid to rest in the palace chapel’s crypt. Flags were lowered from half‑mast as the funeral concluded.

More than 10,000 people lined streets of Oslo to pay respects amid 13 days of national mourning.

The new king, Haakon VIII, along with his family, stood on the Royal Palace balcony and waved to the crowd of thousands gathered outside.
