A convicted German transgender right-wing extremist, Marla-Svenja Liebich, has been arrested in the Czech Republic after months on the run. Her capture took place in Krásná, located approximately 100 kilometers east of Prague, under the authority of a European arrest warrant.
Liebich, formerly known as Sven, failed to report to the prison in Chemnitz in August 2025, where she was sentenced to an 18-month term. The Halle District Court had found her guilty of extreme right incitement to hatred, defamation, and insult, leading to her sentence without the possibility of parole.
Previously, Liebich was a member of a neo-Nazi organization known as Blood and Honour. After her conviction in July 2023, she appealed the ruling but lost her case. In late 2024, she sought a gender identity change in official records, transitioning from male to female under Germany's Self-Determination Act, which allows for such changes through a simple declaration.
However, doubts have been raised regarding the sincerity of her transition, with German authorities suggesting it may have been a strategic move to evade legal consequences. At the time of her arrest, reports indicated she was wearing men's clothing and had a shaved head, and she briefly attempted to flee. The spokesperson for the Halle public prosecutor's office confirmed her current custody in the Czech Republic, where she awaits extradition back to Germany.
