Welcome to Cake Picnic, Sydney Edition
It's the viral event that's already sold-out dates in San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles, and now it's landed on Australian shores with a delightful gathering in Sydney's Botanic Gardens.
Inspired by a simple gathering turned grand celebration, Cake Picnic encourages bakers to bring their creations, turning the event into a melting pot of flavors and designs. The event's founder, Elisa Sunga, humorously reflects on the whimsical idea of touring for cake, saying, I had no idea that I could ever go on tour for cake,” as participants gather to share slices of joy.

Participants lined up with freshly baked cakes, ranging from towering creations to inventive new flavors, showcasing the culinary diversity of the community. Notably, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement amongst the 500-plus gathering, all coming together to celebrate the artistry of baking and connections forged over shared experiences.
Tanya Mouchawrab, attending with her daughters, remarked on the fun of coming together to bake late into the night, while students and young professionals mingled, capturing selfies with their cake-laden pizza boxes.
A Creative Community Celebration
From intricately designed dessert tables to parents baking with their children for quality time, the event stood as a testament to creativity and community spirit. Even Sunga herself admits to reconnecting with her passion for baking, finding balance amid her career in artificial intelligence.
With cupcakes, tortes, and even savory focaccia cakes, Cake Picnic exemplifies how sweets can bring people together, leaving attendees eagerly awaiting the next event.
