In brief

Police are probing Australian installments of the reality hit after reports of inappropriate content. The investigation began on 24 August and will be referred to Western Australian authorities. Channel Nine confirmed the probe and linked it to producer Endemol Shine Australia. It follows earlier BBC findings that cast members were not informed of partners’ criminal histories, sparking calls for tighter background checks. Meanwhile, the UK version faces its own scandal and a pending Ofcom review.

Police are investigating the Australian version of reality hit Married at First Sight after an alleged report of inappropriate content shared by producers.

New South Wales Police stated the investigation began on 24 August following a report of "inappropriate content being shared." The matter will be referred to Western Australian police.

Channel Nine confirmed it was aware of the probe, directing inquiries to producer Endemol Shine Australia. The production company has not yet replied to repeated requests for comment.

Earlier this year a BBC investigation found several cast members were "not told" that their future partners had drug or violent convictions. The revelations triggered a warning from Australian media watchdog and added to growing calls for stricter background checks.

In the UK, Married at First Sight faced its own scandal after a BBC Panorama piece alleged rape by two male contestants. Channel 4 has pulled all UK episodes and is awaiting a review report from Ofcom, which is yet to be released.

Meanwhile a former male cast member of the Australian series has lodged a formal complaint, claiming that producers shared his private details with his on‑screen bride.

The show remains a ratings juggernaut, but the series' welfare procedures are under intense scrutiny as it faces both legal and public backlash.
