Sister Inah Canabarro Lucas, affectionately remembered for her vigorous spirit and devotion, died on Wednesday according to her religious order, the Irmãs Teresianas Brasil. Residing in a retirement home in Porto Alegre, Brazil, she had marked her 116 years with a life of service and love, even receiving a special blessing from Pope Francis on her 110th birthday.

While her death was attributed to old age by her family and her religious order did not specify a cause, there was a noted decline in her health as her sight and hearing diminished during her final years. Remarkably, she avoided significant surgeries until the age of 106.

In January 2025, Guinness World Records recognized Sister Inah as the oldest living person following the death of Japan's Tomiko Itooka. Her birth year, 1908, saw the introduction of the Ford Model T and the world was on the cusp of monumental technological advancements, such as the invention of insulin and early radio broadcasts.

Her life was celebrated widely, and the Irmãs Teresianas expressed gratitude for her contributions, inviting followers to remember her by sharing their fond memories.
