INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Former NFL quarterback and sports analyst Mark Sanchez was released from custody Sunday, approximately one week after he was stabbed during an altercation with a truck driver outside a hotel in Indiana.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police confirmed Sanchez's release, noting that he faces felony battery charges alongside several misdemeanors. This incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over parking.

According to police affidavits, the incident took place on October 4, following an argument between Sanchez (38 years old) and Perry Tole (69 years old). Tole reported that Sanchez, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, confronted him while he was parking his truck in the hotel’s loading docks. The confrontation escalated when Sanchez allegedly entered Tole's truck without permission and physically blocked him, prompting Tole to use pepper spray in self-defense.

Authorities stated that Sanchez then advanced towards Tole, who felt compelled to pull a knife for protection, resulting in Sanchez sustaining stab wounds to his upper torso. Photos circulating online depict Tole in a neck brace in a hospital bed, covered in blood from a deep cut on his face.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis for Fox Sports' coverage of a game involving the Colts and the Las Vegas Raiders.

Having spent ten years in the NFL before retiring in 2019, Sanchez is well-known for his time with the New York Jets and has also played for Philadelphia, Dallas, and Washington. Following his retirement, he transitioned into broadcasting, initially joining ABC and ESPN before serving as a game analyst for Fox Sports, starting in 2021.

As of now, Sanchez's defense attorney has not provided any comments regarding the case.
