Illinois police captured Morgan Geyser, who was convicted in the 2014 stabbing of a classmate to appease Slender Man, an online character, after she fled a group home in Madison, Wisconsin. Geyser, 23, removed her monitoring device and escaped on Saturday night, remaining on the run until her apprehension on Sunday.
Officers located her at a truck stop in Posen, Illinois, where she ominously told them to just Google her name, admitting she had done something really bad. Geyser was found with a man at the truck stop, roughly 170 miles away from where she escaped. The pair was reported loitering, and upon arrival, police found them asleep outside.
At age 12, Geyser stabbed her classmate 19 times, an act she committed while trying to fulfill a disturbing belief in Slender Man. She was sentenced to 40 years in a mental hospital following the crime and was conditionally released in July.
Back in 2014, Geyser and her accomplice, Anissa Weier, lured their friend Payton Leutner to a park under the pretense of a sleepover, where Geyser attacked her. The victim fortunately survived. Geyser and Weier were tried as adults, with Weier receiving a 25-year sentence but being released in 2021.
Geyser's recent escape has reignited discussions surrounding the Slender Man incident, a case that shocked Wisconsin and captured national media attention.
