Extremist Jewish settlers have carried out a spate of attacks on Palestinian villages in the occupied West Bank, setting fire to homes, vehicles, and agricultural fields. The violence began following the death of an 18-year-old settler, Yehuda Sherman, reportedly struck by a Palestinian vehicle while riding a quad bike. In response, WhatsApp groups among settlers incited calls for a 'revenge campaign.' More than 20 settler attacks were reported overnight, as tensions surged across the region.
Since March 1st, the UN has recorded the deaths of six Palestinians at the hands of settlers amid growing violence, exacerbated by the ongoing conflict involving Iran. In the wake of these attacks, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) dispatched troops to the affected areas, particularly targeting the villages of Jalud, Qaryut, al-Funduqmiya, and Silat al-Dhah.
Visual evidence from the scenes depicts significant destruction, with numerous vehicles ablaze and homes vandalized. Eyewitness accounts highlight the chaotic environment, with ambulances responding to confrontations and multiple injuries reported among both Palestinians and settlers.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned these attacks, categorizing them as acts of terror against civilians, while Israeli authorities acknowledged the need for stringent measures against such extremist violence. Various civil rights organizations labeled these violent outbursts as 'a night of pogroms,' calling for accountability and preventive actions from security forces. As tensions persist, the humanitarian impact on the Palestinian communities continues to deepen, placing urgent needs for resolution at the forefront of the ongoing conflict.
