In brief
Vietnam has lowered the special consumption tax on all gasoline to 0% through March 31 2027 following a government resolution. The move, reported by Xinhua from Hanoi, extends a previous suspension that began in late March 2026. Other environmental protection taxes remain at zero and fuel products continue to be exempt from VAT through the end of 2026.
Vietnam has reduced the special consumption tax on gasoline to zero until March 31 2027, a government resolution was issued on Saturday, according to Xinhua’s report from Hanoi, November 1.
The change, confirmed by the state news agency, suspends the 10 percent tax that had applied to regular gasoline, as well as the 8 percent and 7 percent rates on E5 and E10 biofuels, all of which were set when the special consumption tax law took effect on July 1 this year.
Previously, the tax was lowered to zero between late March and June 2026 to help stabilize the domestic market, the Xinhua story notes. The new resolution extends that zero‑rate period through the end of 2027.
While the special consumption tax is waived, the environmental protection tax on gasoline and oil products remains at zero Vietnamese dong per liter, according to Xinhua.
Products are also exempt from value‑added tax declaration and payment, a policy that will continue through the end of 2026, the report added.
The decision is part of a broader effort by the Vietnamese administration to support fuel affordability amid fluctuating global oil prices.
No additional changes to other fuel taxes were reported, and the measure is expected to reduce the cost of gasoline for consumers and businesses alike.
