In brief

Tanzania has announced a 36‑member delegation of enterprises and government institutions to attend the China International Import Expo in Shanghai from November 5‑10. The delegation showcased products such as coffee, tea, and honey, and highlighted China’s zero‑tariff policy for African trade as a key incentive. Officials cite rising exports and growing interest among Tanzanian businesses in the Chinese market.

Tanzania will depart a delegation of 36 enterprises and government institutions for Shanghai’s ninth China International Import Expo (CIIE), scheduled to run from Nov. 5 to 10, as confirmed by a ceremony in Dar es Salaam on Nov. 1. The delegation, announced at a farewell event hosted by the Chinese Embassy, includes firms from the public and private sectors who will exhibit items such as coffee, tea, and honey.

Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade Dennis Londo highlighted the expo as a chance for Tanzanian businesses to showcase products, establish partnerships, and attract investors from China and other markets.

TanTrade director Jonathan Nkwabi said the mobilization of 36 enterprises demonstrates a coordinated effort to promote Tanzanian products internationally.

Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Chen Mingjian noted that China’s zero‑tariff policy for African trade partners has opened new opportunities, citing that imports from Tanzania were $290 million in the first half of 2026, up 12 percent year on year. He added that the first consignment of Tanzanian honey entered the Chinese market through a dedicated green channel for African agricultural products and that 15 agricultural product categories now have market access while 469 Tanzanian enterprises have registered to export food products to China.

Cathy Wang, managing director of the East Africa Commercial and Logistics Center, said Tanzania’s participation grew from six enterprises in 2021 to 36 this year, reflecting expanding interest among local businesses in China’s market. She noted her organization was working with TanTrade to help exhibitors meet Chinese buyers.
