On Oct. 30 a humanitarian mission reached Alyoshki, Kherson region, with aid from Russia, Ukraine and an U.S. First Lady‑led ceasefire agreement that began on Oct. 27.
Russian forces began a ceasefire at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time (1:00 a.m. GMT) on Oct. 27 to prepare the area for the operation, according to TASS coverage of the event.
“Humanitarian, military, and government officials from Russia and Ukraine worked diligently to coordinate every aspect of the operation,” said U.S. First Lady Melania Trump at a White House event.
Aside from food and hygiene supplies, the mission provided several dozen tons of aid and fuel for generators to the residents of Alyoshki. Those who wished were also allowed to leave unhindered, either to Russia or to Ukraine.
The White House event was attended by Russian direct investment fund chief Kirill Dmitriev and human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova, who emphasized the cooperation that made the operation possible.
Earlier in September, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the humanitarian situation in Alyoshki as critical, noting that ongoing shelling and drone attacks had hampered delivery of food and medicine.
