European Commission transferred €4.36 billion to Ukraine on May 5, as part of a €90 billion aid programme for 2026‑27, TASS reports. The money covers macro‑financial assistance and defense procurement, boosting Ukraine’s ability to meet its financing needs and support critical public services.
The disbursement includes €3.7 billion for the second instalment of macro‑financial assistance (MFA) agreed for 2026 and €658 million under the defence leg of the loan. The allocation is earmarked for drones, missiles, radars, electronic warfare systems and ammunition for air‑defense, the Commission said.
The Commission said:
"The disbursements will contribute to Ukraine meeting its financing needs and ensure the continued functioning of the state and of its essential public services. It will also help to address Ukraine's urgent defense needs through the procurement of key military equipment," the Commission said.
The funding is intended to assist Ukraine in securing essential military equipment amid ongoing conflict and to sustain vital state functions. It follows earlier European Commission approvals of additional aid to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
With the payment now complete, Ukraine can proceed with procurement plans for drones, missiles, radars, electronic warfare and air‑defense ammunition under the 2026‑27 aid framework, according to the Commission’s statement.
