An assistant head of a police bomb disposal squad was killed on Saturday, 8 November 2026, when an improvised explosive device exploded while he was attempting to defuse it in the Sararogha area of Upper South Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Xinhua reported.
The incident took place in the South Waziristan district of northwest Pakistan, where the officer had already successfully neutralised a previous device before a second explosive detonated during his defusal attempt.
District police officer Ashfaq Khan told local media the official sustained critical injuries in the blast and later succumbed to them, according to police statements.
Police say the officer was attempting to defuse a newly placed explosive when the device detonated, causing him fatal injuries.
The report highlights the growing risk faced by bomb disposal teams in the region, where improvised explosive devices remain a persistent threat.
