Anadolu Agency reports that the Interior Ministry deployed 70,000 police officers and gendarmes nationwide, backed by mobile units, armored vehicles, water cannons, helicopters and drones, in response to an expected wave of protests. Leaders of student and trade‑union groups plan demonstrations in several cities, while the Yellow Vests movement has called for a gathering at Place de la Concorde. The ministry assures protection of peaceful protestors but vows a firm response to violent elements.
On Saturday, the French Interior Ministry announced that 70,000 police officers and gendarmes were being deployed across the country to prepare for the anticipated wave of demonstrations scheduled for November 5. Anadolu Agency reported that the security operation includes 110 mobile force units, 25 Centaur‑armored vehicles, water cannons, helicopters and drones, as well as checks on roads, railway lines and stations to confiscate items that could be used as weapons.
The ministry, citing a statement released during a news conference on Friday, warned that many of the calls for demonstrations were organized without formal leadership or union oversight and that some were accompanied by calls for violence on social media. It said that while peaceful protests would be protected, it would respond firmly to “thugs and looters,” who would be arrested.
According to Le Monde as cited by Anadolu, several gatherings are planned across France, including student and trade‑union demonstrations in Paris between Place de la République and Place de la Nation. The Yellow Vests movement also plans a rally at Place de la Concorde. The Interior Ministry had earlier reported that on November 5, 575,000 people participated in 193 public gatherings nationwide, including 65,000 in Paris.
AFP also reported that Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said 70,000 police officers and security forces would be deployed nationwide and confirmed that the state would act decisively against any rioters or looters.
