Vice‑President JD Vance announced the birth of his fourth son, Alec Neel Vance, on a Sunday morning.
In a statement posted on his social‑media account, the official acknowledged that both Usha and the baby are “happy and healthy,” and that the family’s other children are overjoyed to welcome their new brother. He also thanked the military doctors and staff at Walter Reed Medical Center for the care provided.
The birth marks the first time a baby has been born to a sitting U.S. Vice‑President in more than 150 years, according to the Associated Press.
JD and Usha Vance, originally from San Diego, California, already have three children – 9‑year‑old Ewan, 6‑year‑old Vivek and four‑year‑old Mirabel. Usha is a former molecular biologist who immigrated from India, and the couple met as law students at Yale in 2010.
In his recent book, the Vice‑President refers to the birth as being influenced by personal loss, noting that after the death of a conservative activist friend, Usha became pregnant with their fourth child, framing it as a poignant juxtaposition of loss and new life.
