At least two killed in Toronto street festival shooting
Police in Toronto received an active‑shooter alert on St Clair Avenue at about 8:12 p.m. local time (1:12 a.m. BST) as a salsa festival was in full swing.
Investigators found six victims with gunshot wounds on the street. Two were pronounced dead on scene; the others were taken to hospital under observation.
The suspect, or suspects, have not yet been apprehended. Police have cordoned the area and are maintaining a large presence to keep the public safe.
St Clair Avenue, in mid‑town Toronto, hosts shops and restaurants and has hosted the annual Salsa on St Clair Latin festival since 2005. This year’s event, the 22nd iteration, was abruptly interrupted by the shooting.
