Four children have been brutally stabbed and killed at a school in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, the police have reported.
A 34-year-old suspect has been detained, but the motive behind the killings is still under investigation, Uganda's police force added in a brief statement on X.
The school has been identified as the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program School located in Makindye Division.
Crime scene investigators are currently on-site as police officials, including chief Abas Byakagaba, are being briefed on the incident.
According to local sources quoted in Uganda's Daily Monitor, the suspect entered the school by posing as a parent before launching the attack on the children, who were aged between two and three.
Videos circulating on social media depict groups of angry and distressed individuals gathering in the wake of the attack.
Local journalist Erich Mboowa mentioned that the suspect was promptly apprehended to prevent a potential lynching.
The investigation is ongoing as the community copes with this tragedy.
