Eight children, aged from one to 14 years old, have been killed in a shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, which police are describing as a 'domestic disturbance'. Officers said the shootings occurred about 05:00 local time when a single gunman shot 10 people. Police chased and killed the suspected shooter as he was fleeing. Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux stated, We have hurting families, we have hurting police officers, coroners' personnel. This affects the entire community, so we all mourn with these families. While police have not identified the gunman or the victims, they revealed that some of the children were related to the deceased man. Mayor Arceneaux called it the worst tragic situation we've ever had in Shreveport and requested prayers for the families and the city.
The shooting took place at multiple locations in the city, including two residences on the same block and a third in another part of the neighborhood, police said. Shreveport Police Corporal Chris Bordelon stated officers found the children shortly after 06:00 local time, emphasizing that all the deceased are juveniles. Officers confirmed that the incident was domestic in nature, with one of those shot fleeing to a nearby residence after the shootings.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the gunman reportedly carjacked a vehicle while fleeing. Police pursued the shooter into another neighborhood where the gunman was fatally shot. No identities of the shooter or victims have been disclosed as officials aim to notify family members first. Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith expressed his heartbreak over the incident and indicated that investigations would involve the Louisiana State Police and multiple other agencies, stating, We are going to be working diligently however long it takes to get some answers to what has taken place.\
