Jennifer Jacobs and Emmett Jacobs

The mother of 18-year-old shooting suspect Jesse Van Rootselaar, Jennifer Jacobs, 39, was one of the victims. Her 11-year-old stepson, Emmett Jacobs, was also killed at the residence where they were found.

Court documents reveal that Jennifer often moved with her children, leading a nomadic lifestyle across Canada before being ordered to settle back in British Columbia.

Kylie Smith

Among the deceased at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School was 12-year-old Kylie Smith. Her family described her as the light of their lives, a talented artist with dreams of attending art school.
