ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (PulseWire) — Timothy Busfield, director and Emmy Award-winning actor, has turned himself into authorities to face serious child sexual abuse charges in New Mexico. On January 9, authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, charging him with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse. These charges arise from allegations involving inappropriate conduct towards a young boy on the set of the TV series 'The Cleaning Lady,' which Busfield directed. According to a criminal complaint submitted by the Albuquerque Police Department, the boy reported that he was touched inappropriately when he was just seven years old. He recounted that Busfield touched him multiple times on private areas over his clothing. The situation reportedly escalated when the boy was eight, claiming he was touched again several more times. The fear of repercussions, particularly fearing Busfield's anger as the director, suppressed the boy's voice, leaving him hesitant to report the conduct. In a twist, the boy's twin brother corroborated the experiences, stating he too had been touched but was reluctant to divulge details for fear of getting in trouble. Despite the allegations, Busfield previously denied the claims during an investigative interview last fall, alleging that the boys' mother might be seeking revenge due to their replacement on the series. He described the set of the show as a 'playful environment,' suggesting he may have engaged in innocent playfulness such as 'tickling.' The mother of the twins alerted Child Protective Services, claiming the abuse spanned from late 2022 to early 2024. The investigation kicked off in November 2024 after a doctor's report led to concerns involving the boys. Disturbingly, one of the brothers has been diagnosed with PTSD and has expressed through nightmares his distress regarding Busfield's actions. Warner Bros., the production company behind 'The Cleaning Lady,' reportedly conducted its own investigation but could not substantiate the allegations. Busfield, known for his notable roles in 'Field of Dreams' and 'Thirtysomething'—the latter earning him an Emmy—remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry.
